Nanoscale Spin Misalignment in Nd-Fe-B permanent magnets induced by Grain Surface Functionalization
Abstract: We propose a magnetic SANS study to investigate the impact of feedstock modification and laser powder bed fusion processing parameters on magnetic microstructure and spin misalignment in additively manufactured magnets. Surface modification of the micron-sized Nd-Fe-B feedstock powder using nanoscale Ag and ZrB2 particles was shown to greatly enhance the hard magnetic properties of the manufactured magnets. Using magnetic SANS, we will investigate the magnetization reversal process in these materials on the nanoscale, to enhance our understanding of additive manufacturing processing and its influence on the macroscopic magnetic behavior.
