Magnetic structure of the layered quasi-two-dimensional magnet NdSb2
Abstract: The RSb2 (R = La-Nd, Sm) series consist of a layered, quasi-two-dimensional crystal structure, and show unusual behaviours such as heavy fermion superconductivity with a very large upper critical field in CeSb2, and the interplay of superconductivity, charge density wave order and band topology in LaSb2. NdSb2 is reported to be a high-mobility low-dimensional magnet with highly quasi-2D electronic and magnetic properties, and is proposed to be a candidate for high performance polarized photodetectors. Measurements of an anomalous Hall effect point to a 2D non-collinear spin arrangement in NdSb2, but direct probes of the magnetic structure are not reported. Here we propose to determine the magnetic structure of NdSb2 by performing neutron diffraction measurements of single crystals using SXD. These results will enable us to gain a microscopic understanding of the low dimensional magnetism of NdSb2, which may be important both for future device applications, and for revealing the mechanisms of diverse unusual magnetic properties in the RSb2 series including the anomalous Hall effect.
