Phase transitions and plateaux in the molecular trimer system Ni3(acac)6(pym)4
Abstract: We seek to investigate a novel molecular magnetic system Ni$_{3}$(acac)$_{6}$pym$_{4}$ that exhibits magnetization plateaux. The material is formed from trimers of Ni2+ spins, joined together in a zig-zag motif by pym ligands, and separated from other trimers by the acac groups. We will probe the possible magnetic phase transition occurring in zero field around 10 K and, using the unique capabilities of HIFI, the dynamics of the magnetization plateau that occurs above 1.8 T.
