Lipid-based nanostructured drug carriers designed for Docetaxel delivery: Characterization using Inelastic Neutron Scattering

Abstract: Cancer is one of the leading causes of mortality worldwide, accounting for one in six deaths. This disease affects individuals of all ages and ethnic backgrounds, presenting a significant challenge to global public health. The main antineoplastic agents, such as docetaxel (DTX) used in the treatment of lung and breast cancer, have limitations such as low water solubility, tissue toxicity and rapid degradation. Such challenges can be overcome with the use of nanocarriers, as in the case of nanostructured lipid carriers (NLC) [1,2]. This compound is a promising contribution by nanotechnology in pharmaceutical sciences increasing the bioavailability [2,3]. We developed a nanostructured hybrid system composed of NLC incorporating docetaxel (DTX, 0.5%) adsorbed on a biopolymeric matrix of xanthan-chitosan gum (3:1%). Our objective in this proposal is to study the structural organization of lipid-based drug delivery systems: NLC composed of Myristyl Myristate (SL) and Miglyol 812 (LL) in two different concentrations containing DTX and the surfactant Pluronic F58, in addition to Copaiba Oil.
