Variable temperature and pressure studies of a zero thermal expansion material
Abstract: For the first time a single phase zero thermal expansion material has been tested under high pressure, this experiment yielded a soft bulk modulus of 23(7) GPa by a third order birch murnaghan equation of state and a phase transition at 3.4 GPa to another crystalline phase followed by amorphization above 5 GPa. Now we would like to investigate this material under both pressure and temperature to determine the pressure and temperature dependence of the thermal expansion properties of this material which demonstrates the largest reported range between 4 and 1400 K. Neutrons would be ideal for this as we could also determine the atomic scale perturbations of this material under pressure which is difficult because it contains oxygen.
