Characterization of the manufacturing method of the ?Torso da Livorno? from Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Firenze by means of Neutron Diffraction
Abstract: In this experiment we propose to investigate, by ToF-ND (Time of Flight Neutron Diffraction), samples taken from a life-size Greco-Roman bronze torso from the collection of the Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Firenze (MAF), in order to characterize the compositional microstructural features related to the casting process. A microstructural analysis of the samples from different areas of the statue will provide us with important information related with the composition of the bronze alloy, hints about the casting methods, and an assessment of the statue conservation status in the areas where the samples have been taken.
