Multi-Resolution Investigation of Diffusion Crossover in Glass-Formers
Abstract: The dispersion of relaxation time with momentum-transfer exhibits a universal crossover in glass-formers, which is reckoned as a transition from non-Gaussian to Gaussian subdiffusion (non-Fickian). We have characterized this crossover in deep eutectic solvents (DESs) using quasielastic neutron scattering (QENS) experiments at IRIS spectrometer. However, in systems exhibiting heterogeneous dynamics, observed behaviour is expected to be dependent on instrumental resolution. Further, molecular glass-formers such as DESs are expected to exhibit an additional crossover at low momentum-transfers (inaccessible to IRIS) attributed to transition from non-Fickian to Fickian diffusion. We aim to use LET to acquire additional information across various timescales (utilizing RRM) and access lower Q values (< 0.5 Å?¹) while maintaining the energy resolution of IRIS.
