The structure of compressed D2 and location of its Frenkel Line
Abstract: Recent advances in instrumentation now render it feasible to access a factor of 7 higher pressures than previously available for structural measurements on light molecules such as deuterium. We aim to provide the first experimental determination of the structure of compressed supercritical deuterium at increasing pressures approaching the melting line, to determine whether a Frenkel line exists in deuterium and if it does, what its precise location is on the phase diagram. This will be a first step in a series of studies of quantum effects on the fluid structure of hydrogen isotopes.
