Liquid-Liquid Phase Separation in the 3-Component Electronic Liquid, Li-NH3-MeNH2
Abstract: This is a resubmission and extension to beamtime RB2220730. This initial experiment began well but was unsuccessful due to a gas-blockage and burst pressure-relief valve, as discussed below alongside renfinement to the original experimental setup to ensure successful measurements in this proposal. We request 4 days of beamtime on IMAT to measure the lithium-ammonia-methylamine system across its liquid-liquid phase separation up to the consolute point. We will monitor phase-fraction of the metallic and insulating liquid phases, and determine the extent of compositional hysteresis on recooling for three metal concentrations.
