Performance tests of TPX3Cam at ISIS
Abstract: There is a continuous demand of time-of-flight (TOF) capable detectors at pulsed sources which has not been followed through by a correspondingly increased development activity, due to the technical challenges and high costs of developing such systems. Current limitations of detectors are, among others, effective pixel size and field of view (FoV). A new TOF-capable camera, TPX3Cam, has been developed for neutron imaging with scintillators and characterised recently. This development provides a disruptive technology, combining the performance of counting-type with imaging type detectors. Here, we propose to characterise the capabilities of the TPX3Cam detector system and assess the achievable performance using the imaging beamline IMAT on TS2 and the detector test beamline EMMA on TS1 at ISIS, providing different neutron wavelength distributions, flux levels and spatial resolution capabilities.
