The impact of the hidden-order on the magnetic structure of the layered van der Waals material CrSBr
Abstract: CrSBr is a layered magnetic semiconductor formed by ferromagnetic layers (Tc ~ 150 K) that couple between them antiferromagnetically (TN ~ 150 K). This van der Waals material presents a complex magnetic behavior with a dynamic magnetic crossover, exhibiting short-range correlations starting below ca. 200 K and a low-temperature hidden-order below T*?40 K, which origin is still under debate [Nat. Mater. 21, 754?760 (2022), Nat. Commun. 13, 4745 (2022), Adv. Mater. 34, 41, 2204940 (2022)]. We propose to unveil the connection between the hidden-order and the underlying magnetic structure in CrSBr. In particular, we will look for the formation of any incommensurable superstructure regarding the coupling between the ferromagnetic layers which would appear as diffraction peaks. In addition, we will analyze the diffuse magnetic scattering to shed light into the nanometric magnetic correlations, expected within the spinfrozen picture proposed by López-Paz et al. [Nat. Commun. 13, 4745 (2022)]. In addition, we will explore the rich field-induced phenomena presented by CrSBr (spin switching and spin reorientation) and its impact in the magnetic structure and magnetic correlations.
