The Early Stages of Zeolite Formation from Gels to Crystals Followed by Neutron Scattering
Abstract: We will use a recently designed reaction cell for following hydrothermal crystallisation in situ to allow the formation mechanism of inorganic materials to the studied using neutron scattering. The advantages of neutrons are their high penetration and the ability to used null-scattering reaction vessels so that we can observe changes from within a reaction vessel. This experiment proposal is a continuation of experiments on the NIMROD instrument for which we obtained preliminary data showing how zeolite formation can be observed. The work will support the PhD thesis of a Facility Development Student.
