Nucleation and crystal growth from amorphous to crystalline ice
Abstract: Amorphous ice has a non-periodic structure distinct from crystalline phases. It is still challenging to elucidate its physicochemical features explicitly. In this project, we investigate the transient states, nucleation and growth of crystalline ice from amorphous form. Local structures derived from total scattering analysis can provide direct information on the evolusion of atomic alignment from non-periodic structure via nano-crystalline seeds to macrocrystalline ice. Furthermore, this experiment will examine the so-called relaxation within the amorphous structure before crystallisation.
