Precursive Magnetic Interactions and Diffuse Scattering in an Anomalous Phase of the Centrosymmetric Skyrmion Host GdRu2Si2

Abstract: Our studies concern understanding the formation of non-trivial topological magnetic structures such as skyrmions in centrosymmetric GdRu2Si2. In this material, the first ordered phase immediately below the paramagnetic state remains anomalous. We intend to understand this phase by measuring the diffuse magnetic scattering signal and the magneto-structural relationship as a function of temperature. This will allow a cohesive interpretation of this first phase; considered essential to understand how the magnetism forms in the set of other topologically distinct magnetic structures across the phase diagram at lower temperatures and higher fields.
