Magnetic Core-Shell Morphology in Cobalt-Doped Iron Oxide Nanoparticles of Different Sizes
Abstract: The objective of this proposal is to investigate the magnetization behavior in cobalt-doped iron oxide NPs. The samples of this proposal were synthesized out of a mixed iron-cobalt-oleate precursor following a thermal decomposition route. The particle size is precisely controlled by variation of heating rates. For this synthesis pathway, formation of a core-shell morphology is known, consisting of a wustite core which topotaxially oxidizes to maghemite near the particle surface. Using magnetic SANS will help to elucidate the quantitative magnetization independently in particle core and shell and will provide an important insight into the early stage of topotaxial oxidation of these highly interesting materials.
