High pressure phases of Na2SO4
Abstract: We request 3 days of beamtime on the PEARL diffractometer to study the structural properties of sodium sulfate, Na2SO4, at pressures up to 5GPa and temperatures up to 750K. In addition to confirming the presence of phase boundaries published in the literature, the experiment aims to solve the currently unknown structures of three high pressure phases. Such information will feed into our understanding of the structural systematics within A2MO4-type compounds and also provide important insights into the nature of any disorder of the Na+ and/or (SO4)2- units at elevated temperatures.
