KF: A model system for understanding entanglement and muon diffusion
Abstract: One of the key challenges in muSR is the understanding of diffusion. Muons have been excellent at measuring the diffusion of ions in battery materials, using the extracted parameters to evaluate the power and rate capability of the materials, allowing one to investigate and optimise the roles of crystal structure, temperature, doping and cation concentration on the effectiveness of them. Nevertheless, a challenge faced when measuring ionic diffusion in these materials is separating the effects of the muon?s diffusion (which has been found to occur in many systems, including pure copper) from the ionic diffusion one wishes to measure. This experiment will use the model system KF, and use the F--mu--F decoherence methods recently developed to investigate muon diffusion, which will aid the development of new theoretical models to understand the mechanisms which underpin muon diffusion.
