Magnetic structure of Ho2Ru2O7 at low temperature
Abstract: Pyrochlore iridates of formula R2Ir2O7 have been studied from the point of view of magnetic frustration as a way to stabilize new phases. In those compounds the Ir ions order in an all-in all-out configuration, which in turn produces a local all-in all-out magnetic field on the rare- earth sublattice site. This allowed the discovery of so-called fragmented phases, where order and disorder coexist on the r.e. site. By replacing the Iridium atoms with another magnetic ion like Ruthenium, we hope to find new fragmented phases. We focus on Ho2Ru2O7, where we identify a new magnetic structure for the Ru ions that was not reported in the literature. In this experiment we want to identify the magnetic structure of Ho2Ru2O7 down to dilution temperatures, measure the temperature dependence of the various ordered moment, and identify the proportion of Ho magnetic moment that may stay disordered.
