Magnetic structure of a new quantum magnet
Abstract: CaCuTe2O6 belongs to the family of ACuTe2O6 that consists of a 3-dimensional arrangement of spin-1/2 Cu ions. Three main interactions are relevant in the system where the first neighbor interaction (J3) couples the Cu ions into isolated triangles, the second (J2) couples them into the highly frustrated hyperkagome lattice consisting of corner sharing triangles and the third neighbor interaction (J3) couples them into antiferromagnetic chains. J3 dominates the magnetism of CaCuTe2O6 where antiferromagnetic chains are coupled via J1 and J2 resulting in long-range magnetic order at suppressed but finite temperature of 7.7K. A detailed investigation of the magnetic structure in CaCuTe2O6 will allow the determination of the propagation vector and help understand the underlying physics due to frustration mechanism. Therefore we wish to perform neutron diffraction using the WISH diffractometer.
