Compression Behaviour of Tetragonal CsCaCl¬3
Abstract: Perovskite-structure systems have been widely studied under extreme conditions because of their geophysical importance as well as for their multiple applications in materials science. Synthetic perovskites are mostly thought of as oxides with stoichiometry ABO3, although more and more attention has been paid to oxide analogues, such us halide perovskites ABX3 (X: F, Cl, Br, I). In addition to their recent technological applications, halides are more compressible than oxides, so offer experimental advantages to observe similar structural responses in narrower pressure ranges. In this proposal we propose to study the structure of CsCaCl3 perovskite (and in particular the mechanism of octahedral rotations) under pressure in the tetragonal phase.
