In-situ cyclic deformation studies on Wire + Arc additive manufactured Ti6Al4V at room temperature and 450°C

Abstract: Parts built by Wire and Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) process for structural applications require to perform under cyclic loading condition without compromising the safety. In our previous study (RB 1920387) at ENGIN-X, we have investigated in-situ monotonic deformation behavior in Ti6Al4V alloy produced by WAAM process at room temperature (RT). Preliminary results from this study provided key information on slip and twinning behavior of WAAM Ti6Al4V. This study moves to the next stage where we propose to investigate the cyclic- deformation behavior of the selected samples from the previous study (RB 1920387) both at RT and 450°C. The outcomes will provide a mechanistic understanding of the relation between microstructure heterogeneity on the cyclic deformation behavior of WAAM Ti6Al4V. Furthermore, the results will be used to develop and validate the self-consistent modelling.
