COMBINATION OF NEUTRON BASED TECHNIQUES TO DERIVE THE COMPOSITION OF A 18TH CENTURY COIN

Abstract: The combination of neutron based techniques will be applied to derive the composition of a 18th century Portuguese coin,This project was conceived in collaboration with INFN to partecipate to an IAEA CRP, to perform a round robin on a real archaeometric sample. We thus propose to investigate this coin, of known age and provenance, by the use of different techniques, in order to get the composition in a non-destructive way.We stress that no other non destructive techniques could be able to return the composition, taking into account also that the sample is a real one and not homogeneous.
