Spin-lattice relaxation dynamics in Multiferroic CuFe2O4

Abstract: Recently, NiFe2O4 shows a ferroelectric order around ~ 98 K. Although a possible ordered occupancy of Ni2+ and Fe3+ atoms at the octahedral sites of P4122 structure was correlated to the ferroelectricity, the possible modulation of the magnetic structure still remain unexplored. Analogous to NiFe2O4, CuFe2O4 shows ferroelectric order at ~ 39 K. Our interest is to understand possible origin of ferroelectric order by investigating mu_SR studies in CuFe2O4. We, therefore, propose to investigate the temperature dependence of muon-spin rotation (?SR) on CuFe2O4 both in zero magnetic field and in presence of magnetic field. This sensitive information of the static and dynamic properties of the ordered spins near ferroelectric ordering along with the information on the values of magnetic moment can be obtained using the magnetic structure (a diffraction proposal has been submitted on WISH).
