The Brillouin Zone Dependent Magnon Cross-section in the Spinel Mn3O4:
Abstract: We propose to use MAPS to measure the full magnetic dispersion in the spinel Mn3O4. This will done in parallel to measurements aimed at understanding the low-energy acoustic phonons. This material undergoes a Jahn Teller distortion at high temperatures and we are planning to search for anomalies in the transverse acoustic phonons. This work has been hampered by a lack of understanding the magnetic response and this proposal is aimed at addressing this. We request 6 days on MAPS.
