Dynamics in deep eutectic solvents and its correlation with hydrogen bond network
Abstract: Deep eutectic solvents (DES) are a novel variety of solvents which have found great interest in the recent times due to their wide range of applicability in industrial processes. While these systems are found to be excellent alternatives to ionic liquids, the poor conductivity and large viscosity remains a major obstacle in their applications. From our earlier QENS studies on acetamide based DES, it is observed that the hydrogen bond network formed in the DES plays a crucial role in altering the molecular structure and dynamics and hence fundamentally governs the macroscopic transport properties of the system. It is possible to alter the hydrogen bonding network with addition of water for tuning the macroscopic transport properties of the system. Therefore, in this proposal, we aim to investigate the effect of water on diffusion mechanism in acetamide based deep eutectic solvents.
