muSR study of magnetic correlations and their transformation in nanoclusters pure and admixed phases of Cobalt carbide

Abstract: Only few studies have explored the magnetic correlations in nanocomposites of Cobalt carbide systems. Our magnetization and transport studies on nanocomposites of admixed phases of Co3C and Co2C shows unusual saturation magnetization behaviour, which obeys Bloch’s law above 100 K but transforms into an exponential behaviour below it. Electrical and thermal measurements show opening of gap in density of states and the presence of a phase transition associated with the change in magnetic properties. Our studies show large scale clustering of magnetic moments exhibiting larger correlations at high T, which rapidly degrades at low T. An open question pertains to: What is the nature of magnetic ground state at very low T? As prior muSR studies are not reported on this system, we propose to carry out muSR studies at ZF and LF to explore to explore the internal magnetic states of this system.
