Morphological characterization through neutron imaging of Japanese sword microstructure
Abstract: We intend to obtain morphological information about the composite structure of three Japanese swords (welding, multilayered structures, defects, quenched areas, utsuri). We plan to perform white beam tomography to analyse the morphological features on the whole volume of the blades, and time of flight radiography wavelength scan to study the microstructure (strain, defect density, texture) of ferrite and martensite phases.
