SANS studies of Physiogel creams
Abstract: Aqueous creams are widely used to treat skin conditions like rosacea, dermatitis and psoriasis.They are very complex chemical mixtures, and our knowledge of their molecular structure, and the relationship between this and their stability and clinical benefit to patients is sadly lacking. The investigations to be performed here (using the technique of small angle neutron scattering) aim to determine the molecular structure of aqueous creams designed to model the GlaxoSmithKline Physiogel(TM) range of skin care products. A series of these cream formulations will be studied, each having a single deuterium-labelled constituent, so that we can then determine how the constituents are arranged, and thereby deduce the cream structure. By this means we hope to gain a better understanding of how the formulation of such creams might be modified to give improved and more efficacious skin care produc
