Magnetic ordering and crystal electric fields studies in the new cerium compound CeRh2Al10
Abstract: t The compound CeRh2Al10 is a new member of the 1:2:10 stoichiometry series. Previously thethree well-studied compounds CeT2Al10 (T=Fe, Ru, Os) were showed to be the first Kondoinsulators (small energy gapped and strongly hybridized local-moment system) that undergoordering of the hybridized spins. Neutron scattering performed at ISIS proved of key importance toprove the long-range and antiferromagnetic nature of the spin ordering, which unexpectedlyoccurred at a Neel point as high as 28 K for the Ru- and Os-based members in the series. In thisproposal we wish to perform diffraction, inelastic scattering and a muon-spin relaxation study onthe new compound CeRh2Al10 in order to cpontextualize its ground state against those of thewell-studied members CeRu2Al10 and CeOs2Al10.
