Does Na2Co2TeO6 realize the Kitaev model?
Abstract: Preliminary data on the spin excitation spectrum of the honeycomb lattice compound Na2Co2TeO6 are consistent with the existence of Kitaev interactions, as was recently proposed by Liu and Khaliullin. However, the existing data have not allowed us to determine a unique set of exchange parameters. With this proposal, we aim to finalize our analysis after learning (1) whether the low-energy excitations are gapped, and (2) whether one or more crystal field levels exist near 20 meV.
