Micelle formation from model surfactant binary and ternary compositions in the presence of electrolyte

Abstract: The effects of electrolytes on SLES3, C12E8 and LAS4 has been extensively studied, especially the effect on the critical micelle concentration of each surfactant. We wish to extend these studies to temperatures as low as 10oC and, in particular, at low concentrations. Previous studies have shown variations in micelle formation with temperature at low concentrations; the addition of electrolyte will help quantify this behaviour and provide information on bulk behaviour of these surfactants at lower temperatures.
