Large Fractal Aggregates in Silica Rubber Nanocomposites
Abstract: The self assembled structure of silica aggregates in polybutadiene rubber is vital to our understanding of dynamic energy dissipation effects in tyres. Previous experiments on LOQ and D11 have been valuable in showing the effect of an end functional dispersing polymer on the silica distribution, but have not been able to address the long-range organisation of the silica. Evidence from rheology suggests that networks do exist but can be suppressed by the end functional polymer. We therefore seek Xpress time on Larmor to explore the long-range organisation of silica in samples which have previously been studied by SANS and QENS.
