Two-Dimensional Triangular Mott Insulator
Abstract: The 1T polytype of the transition-metal dichalchogenide TaS2 is a system with a very rich phase diagram. Upon cooling down, the crystal goes through a series of charge density wave phase transitions till reaching the commensurate phase. The 1T-TaS2 at the commensurate phase is regarded as a realization of a half-filled 2D Mott insulator. In a Mott state one expects the spins of the localized electrons to order in an antiferromagnetic manner. We would like to test this prediction using muon spin relaxation.
