Neutron spectroscopy study of the C-H vibrational modes in defective graphene

Abstract: We have conducted an extended study of hydrogenated defective graphene, synthesized by chemical routes (hydrogenated thermal exfoliated graphite oxide or H-TEGO), including neutron scattering, DFT-simulations, uSR, optical spectroscopy and NMR. Our investigations have evidenced the capability of defects in dissociating the molecule of H2 and trapping H atoms in C-H covalent bonds. Moreover, NMR data have evidenced an unexpected hydrogen mobility at relatively low temperatures, associated with a small activation energy. To go further in data interpretation and modeling, we would like to complete our study by measuring a high resolution vibrational spectrum of H-TEGO, to be compared to other nano carbons as reference. For this reason we request 4 days on Tosca.
