Effects of Temperature and Cyclic Loading on Deformation-Induced Phase Transformation of High Mn Steels

Abstract: High Mn steels have received great attention in recent years since they have an excellent combination of high tensile strength and elongation. In this study, we aim to investigate (1) the influences of temperature on deformation behavior and (2) the effect of cyclic loading induced-phase transformation on the fatigue lifetime of high Mn steels. To achieve these goals, we plan to quantitatively examine evolution of stresses and phases between parent and product phases during deformation-induced martensitic transformation using a time-of-flight ENGIN-X diffractometer. Moreover, phase transformation kinetics of each phase during deformation will also be studied by complementary methods of SEM/EBSD/TEM as surface measurements and crystal plasticity finite element model and self-consistent model as numerical approach.
