Elemental analysis of cannon balls
Abstract: This proposal requests 4 days on CHRONUS to study cannon balls from Henry VIII’s flagship, The Mary Rose. The beam time will be spent carrying out a full, non-destructive elemental analysis of three round shot. One large lead shot with an iron inclusion, one smaller shop of solid lead and a third large shot of solid lead, which may or may not be part of the Mary Rose armoury. If this shot is found to be of French, rather than of English, origin then a significant part of history would need to be reconsidered.
