Investigating the magnetic structure of Weyl Semimetal MoTe2 using neutron diffraction

Abstract: MoTe2 is a “type-II” Weyl semimetal and very topical field of research for both theoreticians and experimentalists. Two weeks ago we measured this system using muSR technique and found magnetic ordering below 50 K. This is the first observation of magnetic ordering in this system and probably in any Weyl semimetal candidate. Here, we propose to study the magnetic structure of MoTe2 in temperature range from 2K to 70K using the WISH diffractometer. Our proposed measurement will be a crucial step for our broader research of these compounds and it will lead to a high quality publication. We are about to publish our musr results in next couple of weeks. As soon as it is online, is likely to be studied at other neutron sources. Therefore, we believe that rapid access is suitable for our proposed measurements.
