muSR investigation of a possible spin-liquid state in 1T-TaS2
Abstract: 1T-TaS2 is a layered material with many intriguing properties that are after four decades still sparking controversial discussions. Due to a charge gap, it has been long believed to be a Mott insulator, yet its magnetic ground state, which should be affected by the geometrical frustration of the corresponding spin lattice, remains largely unexplored. Here we propose a comprehensive muSR study to complement our NQR investigation, which is limited by extremely long 181Ta NQR relaxation times at low temperatures and lower sensitivity to small magnetic moments than muSR. This study should allow us to distinguish between the spin-liquid scenario and a state with small frozen/ordered magnetic moments.
