Neutron scattering studies of novel multiferroic materials
Abstract: This project lies on the study of multiferroic materials in which both electric dipole order and magnetic order coexist. These materials are of the potential for new technology and of great interest in fundamental research. The aim of the current proposal is to study the multiferroic properties of pyroxenes using a combination of neutron, Xray and muon techniques with a particular emphasis on neutron diffraction, from both single crystal and powder samples, to determine the magnetic structures of various pyroxenes and to uncover the connection between their refined structures and their multiferroic properties. Neutron diffraction experiments under high pressure will reveal the spin symmetry related to induced new magnetic phases and in turn
