Neutron diffraction study of magnetic structure of PrFe2Al8

Abstract: The crystal structure of PrFe2Al8 consists of a network of Al which forms quasi cage-like structure where the Pr and the Fe form chains of atoms along the c-axis. We propose magnetic structure study of PrFe2Al8 using WISH in order to understand the presence of ferromagnetic clusters of Fe (below 30K), the metamagnetic transition in low fields and the antiferromagnetic order of Pr3+ (below 5K), which we have observed through macroscopic measurements. In our recent HRPD experiment (RB1520106) we observed many new Bragg peaks below 5K, which we assumed that are related to an AFM ordering of Pr3+ moment. However, HRPD data alone could not give a unique solution for the propagation vector, we therefore propose here to use WISH to investigate magnetic structure. On WISH we will be able to observe magnetic Bragg peaks up to 50 ang, which are important to solve the magnetic structure of PrFe2Al8
