Novel state of matter in the site-ordered double perovskites Ba2YWO6
Abstract: In solids, spins and orbitals are usually not coupled to each other. This may be not true any more in the rocksalt ordered double perovskites having spin-orbit coupling. Possibly, spin-orbital entangled liquid may be realized in this class of materials. We explore this possibility in Ba2YWO6 (Fm‐3m) with localized W5+ (5d1) electrons. By measuring low-energy excitations using inelastic neutron scattering, we prove/disprove the emergence of entangled liquid-like state of matter.
