Self-diffusion of water-ethanol mixtures
Abstract: This project will investigate the self-diffusion of ethanol-water mixtures to support our work on supramolecular gels in drug delivery. As these solvent mixtures are safe to use as delivery vehicle, our gels will be based on them. However, the knowledge about the diffusion characteristics of the mixtures is not well described and mainly based on molecular dynamics simulations or nuclear magnetic resonance measurements, neither of which fit each other or preliminary data recorded by us in earlier experiments. We thus propose to perform a systematic investigation into ethanol-water mixtures using quasi-elastic neutron scattering on LET to fill this knowledge gap and to facilitate further research into drug delivery by supramolecular gels.
