Single Crystal Investigations of Polymorphism and Disorder in CH3NH3PbI3
Abstract: Photovoltaics are one of the most promising technologies for meeting future energy requirements. CH3NH3PbI3 was first used in a solar cell in 2009, which gave an efficiency of 3.81%. Since then the efficiencies for solar cells containing CH3NH3PbI3 have increased extremely rapidly, concurrent with progress in film processing conditions, device architecture and chemical composition, with the current highest certified efficiency being 17.9%. The efficiencies of CH3NH3PbI3 based materials are now approaching values for more established technologies such as crystalline-Si or CdTe thin films. However, the structure of CH3NH3PbI3 has only been partially determined. As part of our EPSRC funded research on ¿All Inorganic Bulk Heterojunction Solar Cell Devices¿, we request 8 days of SXD beamtime to determine the structure of CH3NH3PbI3 and correlate it with the properties displayed.
