Mechanical Behaviour of a Dual Phase High Manganese Steel
Abstract: A newly developed dual phase high manganese steel has the potential to exceed the mechanical properties of many current state of the art advanced high strength automotive and armour steels. This is due to the alloy exhibiting high strength alongside excellent ductility which is provided by the interplay between slip and twinning in the constituent phases, i.e. the mechanisms that govern how the material deforms. Here we propose to investigate the mechanical behaviour of this alloy during deformation to understand the response of the constituent phases during deformation, as part of a studying exploring the development of these alloys.
