Mass-resolved neutron spectroscopy and neutron resonance Dopplerimetry on Superconducting Radio Frequency cavity cutouts
Abstract: We request beam time on Vesuvio to investigate the samples taken from and prepared in parallel with Superconducting Radio Frequency (SRF) Nb cavities in order to investigate the local hydrogen dynamics changes induced by the surface conditioning. Understanding how hydrogen and niobium hydride phases participate in deterioration of surface superconductivity in Nb cavities will allow us not only to reduce the performance degradation but also to design better surface processing technologies.
