Low-energy magnetic excitations in the superconducting state of Sr2RuO4: opening of a gap?
Abstract: We propose to study the magnetic fluctuations of the unconventional superconductor Sr2RuO4 in the superconducting state extending our previous experiments on a cold triple-axis spectrometer. First, we wish to study the gap opening in the magnetic excitataions associated with the nesting of the one-dimensional alpha and beta bands. From our previous work we know that such a gap is well beyond the currently accepted values of 2Delta. In addition we propose to search for a response of the quasi-ferromagnetic fluctuations related to the van Hove singularity of the two-dimensional band, which seem to play a stronger role in the superconducting pairing.
