Study of the diffuse scattering patterns and the determination of the detailed crystal structure of Ni-Fe(Co)-Ga magnetic shape memory alloy
Abstract: Magnetic shape memory alloys are a unique class of material which produce huge elongation (up to 6%) upon the application of a magnetic field. This combined with fast response and long fatigue life makes them ideal for actuator applications. We will be studying a new magnetic shape memory alloy which has recently been discovered. We will be characterising some of the fundamental properties of this alloy namely its crystal structure and its magnetic structure.
