Disordered Materials Express: Microstructurally and Compositionally Accurate Models of Kerogen
Abstract: Production of oil and gas from shale resources has revolutionized the energy industry. However, the physics and chemistry describing fluid flow in shale are fundamentally different from what occurs in conventional reservoirs. Here we attempt to measure the structure of shale at the small lengths that control the fluid flow process. If successful, this research should result in better understanding of fluid flow at small length scales and therefore more efficient production of oil and gas from shale.
