Probing Spin Dynamics in S=1/2 spin liquid candidate Metal-Organic Framework (MOF)

Abstract: Spin liquids are magnetic materials with no long range ordering. We would like to explore the magnetic ground state of a Copper based Metal-Organic Framework(MOF) with suspected spin liquid behavior. Our magnetization data gives a strong indication of the absence of long range magnetic ordering at very low temperature even though the presence of strong antiferromagnetic interactions in the system that can be ascertained from Curie-Weiss law. This is a good indication of a possible spin liquid ground state in the system. In this study, we propose to probe the spin dynamics of this MOF at milli Kelvin temperature. Probing the spin dynamics at the lowest temperatures using Zero field MuSR as well as longitudinal Field MuSR will provide crucial information to demystify the nature of ground state of this material.
