Magnetic excitations in magnetoelectric pyroxenes CaMGe2O6 (M=Mn, Co)
Abstract: Magnetoelectric materials have been the subject of a considerable amount of research activity for their fundamental scientific interest and potential applications in technology, such as magnetoelectric random access memory. We have recently reported the magnetoelectric and magnetic properties of a clinopyroxene compound CaMnGe2O6. The aim of this proposed experiment is to determine the strengths of the various exchange integrals in magnetoelectric CaMnGe2O6 through inelastic neutron scattering and to, in turn, gain insight into the origin and role of frustration in this family.
